She received her M.S. in genetic counseling from the University of Minnesota in 1997 and Ph.D. in human genetics from the University of Maryland in 2004. Dr. Pollin is a board certified genetic counselor with a research focus on mapping genes involved in susceptibility to type 2 diabetes and its complications related to lipids and cardiovascular disease, including the study of cardioprotective effects of inborn apolipoprotein C-III deficiency from a founder mutation in the Old Order Amish, as well as the implementation of genomic knowledge into clinical settings.
